About Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy:

About Diplomat

Diplomat serves patients and physicians in all 50 states as the nation’s largest independent specialty pharmacy. Headquartered in Flint, Mich., the company focuses on medication management programs for people with specialized, long-term medical needs, including cancer, HIV and multiple sclerosis — always focused on increasing adherence and improving patients’ outcomes. Diplomat opened its doors in 1975 as a neighborhood pharmacy with one essential tenet: “Take good care of patients, and the rest falls into place.” Today, that tradition continues. In addition to operating as a specialty pharmacy, the company provides back-end services to retailers and hospital pharmacies looking to enter the specialty market. In managed care, it offers specialty coverage to more than 12 million lives nationwide.

For five years running, Diplomat has been counted among the Inc. 500|5000 fastest-growing companies in the country; within the last three years, its numbers more than doubled. In 2012 alone, the company was named a Top Work Place by the Detroit Free Press, and its CEO, Phil Hagerman, was named by MLive Media Group as one of 13 Michiganders to Watch. Meanwhile, Diplomat’s patient satisfaction rates lay between 98 and 99 percent, and the company earned $1.1 billion in annual revenue.

Diplomat is accredited by URAC, PCAB, VAWD, ASHP and ACHC. Learn more at

Pharmacy Podcast Episode 112 Certified Pharmacy Technician with Cassie McIntyre, CPhT

The Pharmacy technician, also sometimes known as a pharmaceutical technician, is a health care worker who performs pharmacy related functions, generally working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or other health professional.

Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of locations, usually in community/retail and hospital pharmacies but also sometimes in long-term care facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, third-party insurance companies, computer software companies, or in government or teaching. Job duties include dispensing prescription drugs and other medical devices to patients and instructing on their use.

Pharmacy Technicians talk to a patient about their medications. They may also perform administrative duties in pharmaceutical practice, such as reviewing prescription requests with doctor's offices and insurance companies to ensure correct medications are provided and payment is received. In recent times, they also speak directly with the patients on the phone to aid in the awareness of taking medications on time.
